Surprise! A short story just for you 🎁

Hi there,

Greetings from Greece! I have recently been reminded that I haven't shared a travel update in a while (sorry!), so here is a photo of me checking out the Acropolis on a cloudy day here in Athens.

The sun has since returned—thank goodness!—so I've been tempted out of the writing cave and will try to be better about posting stories and pictures. (If you're into that kind of thing, I mostly share travel stuff on my Instagram page.)

Anyway… onto the good stuff! You've been so patient as I've worked to get The Forbidden Fae ready to leap into the world, and I honestly can’t thank you enough. Seriously, you’re the kind of reader every author dreams of having in their corner. 💖

To show a little love for being part of this countdown adventure, I’ve got something special for you: a prequel short story told from Garrett’s POV.

It takes place three years before The Forbidden Fae, and it gives you a glimpse into Garrett's life before he joined The Royal Fae Guard—back when he was just trying to keep his family fed.

I really loved spending this extra time with him, and I hope you do too.

Check out the story below:

There are some wounds even a healer can't fix…

Garrett Forrester has one job: keep his family fed. That means swallowing his pride, wearing the required iron collar that strips him of his fae powers, and selling his healing magic to the very casters who fear and oppress his kind.

He's learned to live with the humiliation. What he can't seem to kill is the hatred that comes with it.

But hatred is the easy part. When everything Garrett has sacrificed to protect is torn away in a single devastating night, the boy who spent his whole life mending others must decide whether he still wants to heal this broken world—or burn it.

Don’t miss this glimpse into Garrett's world before a certain redhead with a dangerous secret turns his life upside down.

And of course, I'd love to know what you think! Hit reply to share your thoughts after reading!

Thank you, truly, for being part of this journey. I hope you enjoy this gift.

Talk soon,

K.J.

Hi there, I've been sitting on this for SO LONG, and I am barely holding it together. Today is the day I finally get to show you the cover for The Forbidden Fae. Behold! Isn't she stunning? I genuinely cannot believe this book is almost in your hands. Here's what's waiting for you inside: Half fae. Half caster. Traitor to both. Eden Hale has spent seventeen years hiding. Desperate to stay in the caster realm with the only family she has left, the defiant half fae conceals her true bloodline...

Hi there, This isn’t an easy email to write, but it’s an honest one. I wrote a short story a while back, and it’s the most personal thing I’ve ever shared. It’s not part of a series, and it doesn’t follow a grand magical quest. But there is magic in it… a quieter kind. The kind that aches. It was inspired by the loss of my sister. In September of 2000, my older sister passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Over the years, I’ve processed a lot of grief through writing—journaling, poetry, even...

Hi there, It’s been a minute! Or, depending on which realm you were counting from, possibly a century. But fear not: I haven’t been lost wandering the astral plane or trapped in a fae time loop (well, not entirely). Just quietly brewing stories, plotting twists, and occasionally remembering what day it is. If you’re still here, you’re officially part of the Inner Circle of Patience, and I’m thrilled to reconnect! If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to, here’s the scoop: I’ve been deep...
